The Highlands named in Lonely Planet’s “Best in Travel” 2019
Well, isn’t this an accolade! One, which we wholeheartedly agree with and we’re pretty sure, you do too. The introduction on their website to our piece of heaven sums up how we hope Kingairloch comes across to our visitors:
“The wild landscapes of Scotland’s Highlands and islands offer the ultimate escape – one of the last corners of Europe where you can discover genuine solitude.”

From Kingairloch you can immerse yourself in so many of Scotland’s delights without leaving the peninsula. During your stay with us you can visit castles, taste whisky, partake in exciting outdoor pursuits and see truly wild animals in their natural habitats. Here’s a previous post with some suggested places to visit.
But for now it is for you to decide on the time of year to visit the Highlands. Every season has its own unique character. Many visitors choose to return to us at different times of the year to absorb what it is like to be in Scotland throughout the year.
Here are a few seasonal highlights from the estate we can share with you to aid your decision making:
Spring
The cuckoo returns to our glens and the carpet of blue bells in the garden at Kingairloch House are something to behold.
A magical setting for an elopement
Summer
The hillsides take on a purple hew from the budding Heather and the stags antlers start to regrow.
The red deer are often seen on the shoreline during the Summer, they like to cool off in the sea
Autumn
The roaring of the red stags during the red deer rut is something that sends tingles down your spine. The auburn and copper colour palette on the hills is every artists’ dream.
The hills take on a range of stunning autumnal hews
Winter
With a dusting of snow on the high tops and crystal clear night skies, stargazing is a wonderful activity to partake in.
A dusting of snow always adds a touch of magic to the hills at Kingairloch
